ARTS COUNCIL'S DANCE MAPPING PROJECT
Added on 17 Feb 2009
In view of the remarkable increase in dance activities in the UK, Arts Council England has commissioned a mapping exercise in order to obtain a comprehensive view and understanding of the dance sector.
Following a merging and analysis of the considerable data ACE already holds, there will be a wider environmental analysis that will include the funded and non-funded dance sector. This should provide a much clearer sense of the dance ecology, a better understanding of market segmentation and how each bit fits into the creative economy. As well as the funded sector the mapping project will look at areas such as other art disciplines (e.g. theatre, opera and the visual arts) where dance plays a significant role; the commercial dance sector, including West End theatre; digital dance including film and video and advertising; the music industry; dance teaching and education; community dance and dance and health.
The project (due for completion by Spring 2009) is being undertaken by Susanne Burns (who undertook PALATINE's own 'Mapping Dance' project in 2006) and Sue Harrison.
