Broadcast Media Open Day

Added on 30 Apr 2009

Final year Broadcast Foundation students hosted an open day for AS level media students from Bath City College on 29th April. Those who attended the event got to participate in green screen activities with a ‘newsroom’ background and took tours of the campus. In the lab, the guests were invited to a presentation held by four of the boys from the FD Broadcast Media course. The presentation was held on various aspects of the media industry including personal experiences as Runners on shows like Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and Loose Women.
Jake Martin told the group about his script writing successes, he and a friend wrote a script over three weeks and after sending hundreds of emails to “everyone in Hollywood” they got a response from BenderSpink Productions, the company who made the American Pie series. Now in development discussions, Jake is counting himself lucky but maintains the fact that “this all may come to nothing”. Still, it goes to show perseverance pays off.
Mike Bishop then showed us a short he’d made on work experience with the special effects company The Mill, and a short film for the Bath Film Office website shown by Ved Gobin. The talk lasted about an hour and seemed to cover most aspects of the different ways of getting into media, the different out sources and valuable first hand experience from the boys.

The event was hosted as part of the FD course but it was clear that the students from Bath City college, although slightly daunted by the wealth of knowledge and experience on hand, were suitably impressed.

A job well done from the guys at the Broadcast lab.
