Our BroadcastLab facilities are an excellent student resource.

The BroadcastLab houses an editing suite which uses the highest industry standard hardware and software for digital editing. Digital cameras, sound recording and field editing equipment, lights, tripods and stands can all be loaned out to students for use on their own projects or for assessed modules. The lab also has a full-time technician.

On the top floor of the lab, a large high definition plasma screen allows students to share their work. In addition to this facility, the lab also has the ability to come into the classroom. High specification laptops, running editing and recording software, can be brought into ordinary classrooms, allowing technicians to demonstrate the use of equipment to students unused to thinking about their work as broadcast-able.

The building itself is a 14th century castle gatehouse which is Grade I listed. Part of the top floor has been partitioned off for the previous users - a colony of bats! Because it is a listed building, there are some access issues. If a prospective user has difficulty with stairs, field editing equipment can be loaned over a longer term and technical demonstrations in other rooms can be arranged. There is a hearing induction loop in the building.
