Four Women 14 Children and One Book
Added on 31 May 2007

Four Creative Writing students, Michelle Burton, Alison Killeen, Gemma Middleton and Amanda Stone, recently celebrated the launch of their book ‘From Pegs to Pens’.
Family, friends, fellow students and staff from the School of English and Creative Studies attended the launch where readings from the anthology were performed. From Pegs to Pens is an anthology of fiction, fact, prose and poetry based on the life experiences of all four students. The original idea for the book came from Gemma Middleton (‘I did some research about self-publishing and then approached the others’). The students have not only undertaken the writing within their course but have also had to learn skills such as pagination, design, publishing, marketing etc; Gemma said ‘It has been worth all the hard work’. Michelle Burton commented ‘I have always loved writing but with five children I never had the opportunity to do it, now they have grown up I decided to go back to writing. The University has been wonderful, it provides a forum for students to become creative entrepreneurs, pursue projects and follow their dreams’.
The students will be appearing at the Frome Arts Festival from 6-15 July 2007, so pop along and support them if you can.
